I have insurance on my laptop and my son has damaged it. Can I claim insurance on this and how it will implication on my credit history and future renters insurance.

Question by tina | Posted in Insurance
I had a shoplifting that is covered under my renters insurance policy, but it was almost two years ago and want to know if I can still file that claim?
Answer: You're common to have a really hard time getting that paid.
If you filed a police article at the time, you sure can try to file the claim. If you didn't file the police report, then there was no larceny, legally, and the insurance won't pay. |

How Long Does It Take For A Renters Insurance Claim- Due To Theft? |
Question by mirella m | Posted in Insurance
My apartment was docile into and they took several things such as tv for $2500, child's bike $80, dvd player $170, jewelery $3000, and classify that is attached to the tv for $120. which total a little over $5000. How long do you think it will take to get my enrol from AllState. I will be moving out of that apartment sue to the theft amount in that area.
Answer: Mainly two weeks or so, after they receive all the paperwork - including your receipts, the police report, and the test of loss - unless there's something really suspicious about your claim.
They're going to pay based on depreciated value, until you really replace the items. IF you have replacemetn cost coverage.
AND, unless you scheduled the jewelry seperately, there's a rip-off limitation written into your policy. |

What Can I And Can't I Claim On My Renters Insurance? |
Question by titania94 | Posted in Insurance
I was called today by my upstairs neighbor, who said that one of their pipes had tamed and it flooded my kitchen. Our landlord fixed the problem and encouraged me to call my agent and file a renters insurance claim. I mystified all of my boxed food, a rug and possibly a microwave, a coffee grinder, toaster and coffee pot. I would like to claim the towels I reach-me-down to clean the mess, as well as my son's sippy cups and his toddler plates. I realize that the towels and sippy cups and plates are washable, but the douse that was on them came from upstairs and down through the ceiling and was so brown that it looked like weak coffee or tea. I don't yen to eat off of that stuff anymore! Also, my husband son and I will have to eat out today and probably tomorrow due to the stove being soaked and the microwave not working. Can I get reimbursed for that as well?
Thanks for answers...I have never had to go through anything like this before! And I hankering to never have to go through it again - especially this close to Christmas!
Answer: The items that can be cleaned....will be cleaned if you fill in a claim. If the item is cleaned properly - then it's not a problem. My grandmother used to run the dishwasher with a diminutive bleach if she was washing cups and things used by a sick person. So, if it makes you be sorry for better- maybe you could pre-wash in a mild bleach and water solution and then run them through the dishwasher as usual (with just soap and hot water).
But, if you don't want to eat on those items - throw them away and put the gain that the insurance company will give you to clean them toward purchasing new items. You will need to pay the difference out of pocket.
Also - washing the towels with blanch will take car of that problem.
Renters will pay for your personal property. If the item can be cleaned - it will. If it can not be cleaned (such as the water damaged microwave) - then your tactics will pay for the item per the policy provisions. Your deductible will apply. |

I didn't know I could do that....and well with about 6th months later....is it too new??
I paid $1200 for the camera.

Filing A Claim On Renters Insurance.....? |
Question by signabella | Posted in Insurance
My apartment got docile into on 9/11/07... I called today to make my claim and the insurance adj started asking me all these questions about our belief history. She wanted to know if we were behind on rent/loans etc. We (my fiance and I) are behind on ONE of our credit cards (one month) but we have been on perpetually with rent/eletric etc. When I was 18 and in college I took out a credit card, then puzzled my job and it was sent to collections. I paid this off over a year ago but could that possibly effect us collecting our insurance small change? We don't have perfect credit but I feel kind of offended about them asking like we made this all up because we can't pay our bills! We a moment ago purchased a Jeep in the beginning of August, set up a new car ins policy & as well as the renters ins. A police report was filed and everything but I yearning to know, are these normal questions for an insurance adj to ask?
| Answer: Yes, these are usual questions. Hopefully, your adjuster explained that these are standard questions that they must ask when investigating any destruction. You'd be appalled at the number of fraudulent homeowner and renters insurance claims that are filed for supposed thievery. I'm assuming that your claim rep took a recorded statement when they asked you these questions. They have an obligation to all policyholders to study every claim thoroughly to be sure that they are paying legitimate claims. When over 50% of all claims filed are exaggerated or fictitious, you can understand why they have to ask those questions. Try not to feel insulted. Can you imagine what your premium would be if they paid every claim they received, including the nerve-racking ones? |

Can A Renter Make A Claim On Their Land Lords Homeowners Insurance? |
Question by cholse | Posted in Insurance
My apartement was demolished into last week, and I am out about 4000.00 dollars. I have no renters insurance. But, does anyone know if I can make a claim on my landlords homeowners insurance? Has anyone in fact done this before? Thank you.
Answer: Apologetic - you generally need to have renters insurance to have your stuff covered. However, if you purchased any of this with a major credit anniversary card, you may be able to file a claim under their purchase protection programs. Call up the 800 number on the back of your cards and ask them to send you the pamphlet that explains your card's protections and benefits.
If there was something negligent about the property's security (such as the host ignored a request you made a month ago to have locks repaired) then there is a slight chance you could divulge a claim against their liability insurance. But, it is a tough case to prove.
If that is a dead end, then at least you can deduct some of this from your income taxes as a disaster loss. Get a police report documenting the theft to help back you up.
Good good break. Next time, buy the renters insurance. It only costs about $50 a year to insure more than $5,000 worth of contents. |
